Dental Credentialing Services
Dental credentialing means joining PPO panels one by one, enrolling with state Medicaid dental programs, and increasingly with Medicare Advantage dental benefits. We manage the applications, the fee schedule decisions and the roster for solo dentists, specialists and multi-location groups.
- Separate from medical credentialing
- CAQH via ADA credentialing service
- PPO fee schedules compared first
- Medicaid dental often through a TPA
- Medicare needed for MA dental benefits
Dental plans credential separately from medical plans, even when the parent company is the same. Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna Dental, Aetna Dental, Guardian, United Concordia and dozens of regional plans each run their own credentialing, most now using CAQH ProView through the ADA's credentialing service. Fee schedules vary widely and joining a PPO is a business decision as much as a credentialing task.
ClainetRCM credentials dentists with the PPOs that make sense for the practice, enrolls with Medicaid dental and CHIP programs, and handles the Medicare enrollment that dentists increasingly need for Medicare Advantage dental benefits and medically necessary procedures.
Where this usually goes wrong
Joining every PPO without looking at fees
Some PPO schedules pay far below usual fees. Practices join everything, then discover they cannot afford the patients they attracted.
Medicaid dental enrollment complexity
State Medicaid dental programs often run through a separate administrator with its own enrollment and credentialing.
Associate dentists not credentialed
Associates seeing PPO patients before they are credentialed generate claims that are denied or paid at out-of-network rates, and the practice absorbs the loss.

State-based member companies; credential with the one where you practice, similar to Blue plans.
Medicaid and CHIP dental
State enrollment, often through a dental benefits administrator. See Medicaid enrollment.

How the work runs
- Intake and gap review
Licenses, DEA, board certificates, malpractice, work history and NPI details are collected and compared against what each target payer asks for.
- Profile setup
CAQH ProView, PECOS and payer portals are created or cleaned up, attested and linked to the correct Tax ID and locations.
- Application submission
Every enrollment is filed in dependency order, with a tracking record for each payer, date and reference number.
- Follow-up on a fixed cadence
Payers are contacted on a schedule. Requests for more information are answered the same business day.
- Approval, contract and handoff
Effective dates, provider IDs and fee schedules are logged and loaded into your billing system.
Frequently asked questions
How long does dental credentialing take?
Most dental PPOs complete credentialing in 60 to 120 days. Medicaid dental programs vary by state. Running all applications at once keeps the total close to the longest single plan.
Do dentists need to enroll in Medicare?
Increasingly, yes. Medicare Advantage plans offer dental benefits that require enrollment to bill, and Medicare covers certain medically necessary dental services. Enrollment also allows dentists to opt out formally if they prefer.
Should I join every dental PPO?
No. Compare each plan's fee schedule to your fees and look at local employer coverage. Joining plans that pay well below cost can hurt more than it helps. We provide the comparison before you decide.
Does the ADA credentialing service replace individual applications?
It provides a single CAQH-based profile that participating dental plans pull from, which reduces repeated data entry. Each plan still makes its own credentialing decision and may require its own contract.
