Behavioral health clinicians (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LMHC), psychologists, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, podiatrists, optometrists, chiropractors and certified registered nurse anesthetists are each licensed by a different state board with distinct education, exam, supervised-hours and renewal requirements. Several professions now have interstate compacts: PSYPACT for psychologists, the PT Compact, the OT Compact and the Counseling Compact, each with its own eligibility rules and participating states.

Where this usually goes wrong
License type accepted by one state, not another
An LPC in one state may need to license as an LMHC or LCMHC in another, with different exam and hour requirements. Assuming equivalence wastes months.
Compact eligibility misread
Each compact has its own rules on home state, exam and history. Applying through a compact the provider does not qualify for delays the direct application.
