A physician's licensing file is the most document-heavy of any provider type: medical school, ECFMG for international graduates, every year of residency and fellowship, the full USMLE or COMLEX transcript, every prior license and a work history without gaps. Each state board verifies all of it at the source. The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact shortens the process for qualifying physicians who already hold a full license in a member state, and FCVS lets the core verifications be reused across boards.

Standard route in every state; required in non-compact states such as California, Florida and New York.
Interstate Medical Licensure Compact
Expedited licensure in member states for physicians with a full license in a state of principal license, board certification and a clean history; available in Texas, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Georgia and Arizona among others.
Universal licensure recognition
Arizona and a few other states license physicians who already hold a license elsewhere on a shortened application.
Telehealth registration
Florida, Arizona and several other states register out-of-state physicians for telehealth without a full license.
Controlled substances
DEA registration per state, preceded by a state CDS where required.
Certification
Board certification is not required for the license but is required by most payers; see board certification assistance.
How the work runs

Education, training, exams, work history and existing licenses are collected and compared with what the target board requires. We choose the fastest eligible route.

How long does physician licensing take?
Direct applications typically take two to five months depending on the state and how quickly verifications arrive. Compact applications can be issued in a few weeks once the state of principal license has verified eligibility.
Who qualifies for the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact?
Physicians with a full, unrestricted license in a member state that is their state of principal license, specialty board certification, no disciplinary history and no criminal convictions, among other criteria. We check eligibility before recommending the pathway.
Do I need a DEA registration in every state I am licensed in?
Only in states where you prescribe, dispense or administer controlled substances. Each such state needs its own registration tied to a practice address, and a state CDS first where the state requires one. See DEA registration.
